🇨🇦 Report says traffickers exploit inspection gap at Canada's Pacific ports
Less than two per cent imaged, less than one per cent physically searched, and Ottawa still wants Canadians to believe the system is under control. Right. The real policy is bureaucratic shrugging with a maple leaf on it. As reported, outbound cargo gets even less scrutiny, with an internal CBSA audit finding the agency did not target exports, outbound vessels or crew from 2020 to 2022. So Canada runs massive Pacific gateways while barely checking what leaves them, then acts stunned when traffickers build a business model around negligible risk.
This is what a hollowed-out state looks like: port authorities, CBSA, RCMP and Transport Canada all involved, and no one actually responsible. Perfect conditions for organized crime, insider access, and the usual elite excuse machine. We can fund endless managerial theater, DEI bureaucracy, and global posturing, but securing strategic infrastructure in Canada’s national interest is somehow too much to ask. Trudeau-era governance in one snapshot: fragmented authority, performative enforcement, and a country treated like an export platform for anyone ruthless enough to exploit it.
