🇨🇦 625 flood victims, and Montreal still talks about sponge parks
After 100 to 170 mm of rain, more than 300 homes in Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Dollard-des-Ormeaux were flooded, and now 625 residents are lining up for class action because the municipal geniuses knew the risk and still failed to build proper drainage and retention capacity, as reported. One resident says he took a $100,000 hit. Another flood victim is dealing with insurers after the same circus played out in 2024. This is what managerial liberalism looks like in practice: endless climate speeches, DEI consultants, bike-lane theology, and then basements fill up because basic infrastructure is treated like an optional extra.
The real scandal is priorities. Taxpayers are squeezed dry, but city hall somehow never has the urgency to protect neighborhoods it already knows are vulnerable. Montreal’s ruling class can sermonize about resilience while residents throw out family possessions for the second, third, even fourth time since 2017. Sovereignty starts at home, and a government that cannot keep sewage and storm water out of Canadian homes has no business lecturing anyone about the future.
