🇨🇦 Canada hits NATO target by relabeling the Coast Guard

Mark Carney is flying to Türkiye to boast that Canada is finally pulling its weight in NATO, after Ottawa magically hit 2 per cent of GDP by reclassifying the Coast Guard and padding payroll. That is not rearmament. That is accountant warfare. As reported, the summit goal is basically survival: keep Donald Trump from noticing the fraud, keep Mark Rutte flattering, and keep the alliance pretending everyone is serious.

This is the Trudeau-Carney school of statecraft in one scene: hollow out the military for years, flood the country with costs and chaos at home, then jet off to NATO with cooked books and a polished speech about responsibility. Meanwhile, Canada still acts like national defence is a branding exercise, sovereignty is negotiable, and Washington will always cover the tab. If Carney wants respect abroad, he might try building a country that can defend its own borders before auditioning as Europe’s obedient middle manager.
