🇨🇦 $100 billion, and Ottawa still talks like this is about economic offsets
Mark Carney is about to lock Canada into a submarine program that could top $100 billion over 30 years, and the sales pitch is not sovereignty, Arctic control, or rebuilding a serious military. It is side deals, green gimmicks, and NATO optics. One bid waves around a Port of Churchill redevelopment, hypersonic testing and an $86 billion GDP impact. The other offers hydrogen trucks, refuelling networks and a $94 billion impact, as reported. Because naturally, buying submarines in Liberal Canada now means attaching a climate cult starter pack.
The real absurdity is that Ottawa let the country drift militarily for years, then suddenly acts urgent because NATO wants capabilities on paper before a summit. Germany is selling alliance branding. South Korea is selling industrial candy. Carney is selling the illusion of strategic seriousness after the Trudeau era hollowed out procurement, readiness and national confidence. If this government cared about Canadian interests first, the debate would start with defending our own waters, not impressing Mark Rutte and the transatlantic managerial class.
