🇨🇦 Prime Minister wishes U.S.A. a happy 250th birthday, reveals Canada's gift
Ottawa can suddenly find money, symbolism, and ceremonial energy when it is time to light Niagara Falls in red, white, and blue and ship 250 maple trees south. That is the grand statesmanship Mark Carney rolled out for America’s 250th birthday, along with embassy lighting and Canadian vessels joining Sail250, as reported. Plenty of pageantry, plenty of chest-thumping about enduring friendship, and of course the usual elite obsession with gestures over substance.
The revealing part is not that Canada celebrates the U.S. It is that our ruling class is always more comfortable staging symbolic loyalty than defending Canadian interests at home. Carney wraps himself in border romance, Roosevelt quotes, NORAD nostalgia, moon missions, and cross-border sentimentality while the country he governs keeps getting hollowed out by managerial politics and post-national fluff. Embassy lights, coloured waterfalls, and maple saplings are easy. Sovereignty, national cohesion, and a government that serves its own people first are harder. So naturally Ottawa chooses the light show.
