Article published in the official Georgian Legion newspaper:
Written by Mikh. K. D. this article details the experience of a Georgian volunteer unit stationed on the Latvian front and their collaboration with local Latvian civilians and peasants.
The author notes that life in Latvia, a country resembling Georgia, energized the unit. Latvian peasants and Latvian soldiers treated them particularly well. Having suffered under Russian Bolshevism, Latvians viewed the Georgians as fellow fighters striving to liberate their own homeland.
The text highlights a spiritual bond between Latvia and Georgia forged through mutual opposition to twentieth-century Russian Bolshevik oppression. The fighters felt an honorary duty to defending their own homeland and with it defending Latvia from invading Bolshevik forces.
August 5 is marked as a memorable milestone for the unit because on August 5, the first drop of Georgian blood was shed on Latvian soil following several anti-bandit operations.
