Niko Bagration known as Niko the Boer, was one of the few caucasian volunteers who fought against British Imperialism in South Africa.
Niko was a member of the Georgian royal family who used to occasionaly go hunting to Africa for lions. On one occasion, he randomly heard about the Transvaal and Boers. After finding out about the struggles of the boers, niko was quickly motivated to join their struggle.
In his memories, he said he fought with the boers because he saw his people, Georgians in the Boers. Georgias were fighting muslim & russian imperialists, while the boers were fighting against the british.
He was welcomed by the leader of the Boers Paul Kruger who thanked him for fighting for the Boer people.
Prince Bagrationi quickly found popularity among the Boers and was promoted to colonel. He was captured by British forces on March 24, 1900 and was exiled to St. Helena, from where he was eventually released to Georgia.
