Then I'd almost say we implemented a two-pronged solution to the matter in Croatia. Namely, a) the Ustaša handled it on their own authority, and we also transported the Jews from Croatia to the Reich.

Could that be correct?

Yes. So, if we transported them, these Jews from Croatia certainly ended up in Auschwitz, because the Auschwitz camp was the collection point for all transports, with a few exceptions.

During the late 1980s, Klan leaders from the U.S. also traveled through Western Europe seeking recruits at hyped-up cross burnings. The press reported Klan klaverns at out-of-the-way places in Wales and Scotland. And, most importantly, the Klan and other neo-Nazi groupings in the United States and Western Europe beckoned to the rising tide of supernationalism in Russia. When the Balkan war erupted, the far right in America made much of sending recruits to fight alongside the former *Ustashi members in Croatia.

Italian neo-fascists took part in training organized by the Ustaša fighters, specifically, a member of National Vanguard Claudio Scarpa took part in training in Bavaria which was organized by Croatian emigrants. In 25th of January 1972, a meeting took place in Germany between an exponent of Italian Social Movement (MSI) and Croatian emigrants, who were authors of bomb attacks against Yugoslav communist institutions and therefore knew how to use explosives. Another group that was linked to Croatian emigrants were the Ordine Nuovo, through a cell in Verona.

Furthermore, arms trafficking from the German nationalsocialist group in Munich, via Trieste, was directed to Italians and Croats. The main investigator of this arms trafficking was killed upon arriving in Trieste.

At the moment, however, it seems to me as if I've landed on a holiday in beautiful, colorful Croatia. We have an hour's layover here in Zagreb and find that in this city you don't notice much of the war anymore. The market is teeming with colorful traditional costumes, and the pretty Croatian girls smile kindly at the German soldiers. You can really tell how happy the whole population is that they are finally free from the filthy rule.

Today, on the very spot where we once rafted with our battery, the little Croatian boys are playing soldiers. They played falsely, but the melody of the Englandlied is recognizable. Do you sometimes think, when you hear this song, how many children of the various peoples from the Etome to the Black Sea know the Englandlied and look up with complete trust to the German soldiers who march through their villages and towns on the sea against the enemy?
