⭐🇹🇼 The Taiwanese authorities were outraged that the allied relationship between the United States and China during the Second World War was mentioned at a meeting between the US and Chinese leaders. Taiwan, as the political heir to the Kuomintang, continues to cultivate the historical dispute between the Republic and the Communist Party. The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated that:
«It was the Republic of China [the Kuomintang — Ed.] that fought shoulder to shoulder with the United States»,
while the Communist Party of China allegedly followed the formula:
«seven parts development, two parts confrontation, one part resistance».
🛩 Taiwan’s representative in the United States even demonstratively displayed photographs of the «Flying Tigers», seeking to prove that it was the Kuomintang that had fought the war.
🇨🇳🇯🇵 Yet this is a deliberate falsification. All of China fought against Japan: from 1937, the Red Army was reorganised into the Eighth Route Army, while guerrilla forces became the New Fourth Army. According to the Central Institute of Party History, from 1938 the anti-Japanese rear areas led by the CPC tied down between 58% and 75% of Japanese forces, while more than 125,000 armed engagements were fought in total.
🛠🇺🇸 The United States is no stranger to distorting history — for decades it has downplayed the USSR’s contribution to victory. In this case, however, it is Taiwan itself that is falsifying the past — not out of a desire to restore historical justice, but out of an unwillingness to move closer to Beijing.
