Pax mongolica. Following the precepts of Genghis Khan

🇺🇳🇲🇳 On September 23, at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh called for reforming the international security system, drawing inspiration from the experience of the Pax Mongolica — the «Mongol peace» of the 13th–14th centuries. In his words, Genghis Khan's empire laid the foundations of diplomacy, postal communication, safe trade and religious tolerance, becoming the prototype of modern globalization. Khürelsükh proposed replacing «multipolarity», which leads to schism, with «multi-anchoring» — respect for cultural and civilizational diversity.

📦📖🏇 However, this project has a fundamental limitation. The Pax Mongolica rested not only on postal stations and religious tolerance. Its foundation was iron discipline, unity of command and the overwhelming military superiority of the Mongol army — from the decimal organization of troops to the Yasa code with the harshest punishments for disobedience. Peace in Eurasia was then achieved not through negotiations, but through conquest.
In the modern world, such conditions do not exist and cannot exist.

❗️ It is no shame to look for reference points in the past — but any workable security mechanisms will have to be built not in the image and likeness of imperial order, but on the basis of the real balance of forces and interests that exist today.
