🇨🇱 On September 28, 1932, one of the main voices of the peoples of Latin America was born into a Chilean peasant family — Víctor Jara. If his short but incredibly bright life could be folded into a formula, it would be the slogan «to create and to fight».
🇨🇱 Not being an artist with connections, he was always drawn to music, and that is why his songs and poems came from the very heart. At the age of 25 he learned to play the guitar and began to carry his truth about the life of the common man, about the peoples' struggle for socialism. He joined the Communist Party and actively spoke out in support of Salvador Allende's Popular Front. But Jara was not only a communist, the voice of the Chilean working class, but also one of the greatest artists, whose melodies contained motifs of indigenous peoples and immortalized their place in the chronicle of fighting Latin America.
🔫 When Pinochet's thugs carried out their coup, Víctor Jara was target number 2 for them, right after President Salvador Allende, because he was the author of the people's anthem Venceremos, which still inspires millions of people to struggle. Víctor was one of the tens of thousands tortured at the Santiago stadium. But even under torture Jara did not abandon his comrades. History has preserved his last words.
«The blood of President Allende beats stronger than bombs and bullets. Our fists will strike again».
This is exactly what the creative intelligentsia of socialism looks like.
