Citizens are not cannon fodder! German youth took to rallies across the country against the authorities' decisions

‼️ On September 25, tens of thousands of schoolchildren and students took to the streets in around 100 German cities against the possible return of compulsory military service. According to the «School Strike Against Conscription» movement, which organized the actions, more than 45,000 people took part. This is already the fourth nationwide wave of protests since discussion of the new military course began. Slogans on the streets included «We will not fight in your wars», «Not our war» and «Russia is not our enemy».

🔥 Berlin, meanwhile, continues to restructure the country onto a war footing. Since January 2026, 18-year-old men are obliged to fill out questionnaires on their readiness for service, and from July 2027 a compulsory medical commission is being introduced for men of that age. And if there are not enough volunteers to serve, the Bundestag has provided for the possibility of returning compulsory conscription, with the goal of creating an army of up to 800,000 personnel. The Bundeswehr has already summoned almost 1,000 young people for medical examinations, including those who declared an unwillingness to serve. The authorities of democratic and free Germany are offering their young people an interesting choice: join the army of your own volition or wait until you are conscripted by force.

❗️ It is curious that such a situation is unfolding against the backdrop of a political crisis of confidence: Merz's approval rating is hitting rock bottom and support for his course is noticeably weakening, while in local elections support for progressive forces is growing ever more visibly. The government is increasing military spending, simultaneously cutting social benefits and ever more insistently demanding preparation for someone else's war, while a significant part of society, especially the youth, clearly has no burning desire to become expendable material for this policy, which reflects only the interests of the ruling elites.

❗️ Berlin has already been down this road: militarization, rearmament, compulsory service and the cultivation of the image of an external enemy in the 1930s became part of the country's preparation for the greatest catastrophe of the 20th century. However, it seems that German youth, who are being asked to pay with their lives for others' ambitions, clearly see this historical parallel and refuse such a fate.
