🇩🇪 Security, German-style: Berlin closes the Russian House

❗️ Germany has decided to denounce the agreement on the activities of the Russian House in Berlin. Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul explains this by «enhancing internal security» after the drone incident at Leipzig airport. The Kremlin categorically denies any involvement in the incident. Berlin has provided no evidence of Moscow's participation. According to the head of Rossotrudnichestvo, Igor Chaika, the German authorities are acting to the detriment of the interests of their own citizens, trying to destroy long-standing cultural ties with Russia.

🚨 What security can be spoken of here? The Russian House is a cultural venue, not a military facility. However, Europe long ago decided that anything connected with Russia poses a threat in itself: after 2022, Russian cultural centres ceased operating in a number of Western countries; in the Baltics and Poland, Soviet monuments and memorials were dismantled en masse; and European institutions cancelled performances by Russian artists and severed ties with Russian cultural organizations, as, for example, the Dutch Hermitage Amsterdam ended thirty years of cooperation with the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. All such actions are part of a broad political campaign directed against Russia.

❗️ Europe is openly refusing dialogue and pursuing a discriminatory policy merely because Russia is inconvenient to it. And if such a practice is permissible today with regard to Moscow, then tomorrow any other country may turn out to be «inconvenient». Yet by pushing Russia out of the cultural space, Europe is not becoming safer — it is becoming poorer, more closed and further removed from the possibility of normal dialogue.
