The US administration is discussing new sanctions against Canada in response to Carney's tariffs, Bloomberg reports. The White House stated that Trump has an "arsenal of tools" for escalation.

So:

– Canada will impose tariffs of 15–50% on $20 billion worth of American goods starting September 8. Steel and aluminum will be 50%.

– The US has already responded in kind, and plans to impose a 50% tariff on Canadian cars and parts starting in 2027.

– Trump called Carney and Ford "clowns" and threatened new measures. Ford responded by calling him an "arrogant tyrant."

More than 70% of Canadian exports go to the US. Ottawa is trying to switch to Europe, but it won't be able to quickly replace the American market – production chains are too integrated. Ontario's auto industry is particularly vulnerable.
