🇺🇸🇨🇦 Trump threatens Canada with an "arsenal" of measures. The trade war is escalating

The US administration is discussing new sanctions against Canada in response to Carney's tariffs, Bloomberg reports. The White House stated that Trump has an "arsenal of tools" for escalation.

So:

– Canada will impose tariffs of 15–50% on $20 billion worth of American goods starting September 8. Steel and aluminum will be 50%.

– The US has already responded in kind, and plans to impose a 50% tariff on Canadian cars and parts starting in 2027.

– Trump called Carney and Ford "clowns" and threatened new measures. Ford responded by calling him an "arrogant tyrant."

More than 70% of Canadian exports go to the US. Ottawa is trying to switch to Europe, but it won't be able to quickly replace the American market – production chains are too integrated. Ontario's auto industry is particularly vulnerable. Incidentally, in Truth Social, Trump suggested renaming Lake Ontario on the US-Canada border to Lake America because he "doesn't expect to do business with Ontario any further".

It looks like the conflict will drag on for a long time.
