Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan announced his intention to begin the process of applying for EU membership
At the same time, the government hopes to achieve visa liberalization with the EU by 2029.
However, the results of the recent European Community summit in Yerevan showed that, despite the signing of a number of agreements and the establishment of an EU security mission, concrete results for Armenia are largely declaratory.
Furthermore, Armenia's pivot to the West contradicts the actual structure of its economy. Russia remains the main investor and trading partner, while European investments are targeted at public sectors and are incapable of replacing Eastern markets.
