🇨🇦 One Alberta MLA just said the quiet part out loud
A sitting UCP MLA, Jason Stephan, already mailed his ballot for Option 2: start the legal process for a binding Alberta independence referendum. Not because he is some cartoon separatist, but because Ottawa only hears threats now. After Trudeau-era debt binges, federal overreach, and endless lectures from Laurentian managers, Alberta has been reduced to begging for fair treatment inside a country it bankrolls. Even Stephan framed it as leverage to force Canada to fix itself, as reported.
That is the real indictment. National unity in 2026 survives not on loyalty, but on whether Ottawa can stop punishing productive provinces for the vanity projects of central Canadian elites. Mark Carney can fly into Red Deer for photo ops, but the problem is structural: power hoarded in Ottawa, wealth siphoned west to east, and a political class that treats sovereignty like an administrative nuisance. If Confederation needs a separation scare to remember Alberta exists, the federation is already rotten.
