π¨π¦ Raise wages 40 cents, import millions, call it affordability
Five provinces just hiked minimum wage by a laughable 25 to 40 cents, with Ontario going to $17.95, P.E.I. to $17.30, and Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan following suit, as reported. This is the Trudeau-era economic formula in one neat little farce: drive up housing, food, and rent with mass migration and money printing, then toss workers a few quarters and expect applause.
Governments love tying wage hikes to inflation as if they were innocent bystanders watching prices rise from the bleachers. They helped create the squeeze, then market cosmetic increases as compassion. Meanwhile, small Canadian businesses get hit from both ends: higher payroll costs and a flooded labour market designed to suppress real bargaining power. That is the trick. Inflate away purchasing power, dilute the workforce, then let premiers posture as defenders of the working class. Sovereign countries protect their own labour market. Managerial Canada manages decline with press releases and a smirk.
