🇨🇦 Another 400 jobs vaporized while Ottawa lectures Canada about the future
Domtar is indefinitely idling the Howe Sound pulp mill and Bayview Fibre facility, wiping out about 400 industry jobs after pouring $500 million into the operation since 2010, as reported. The official excuses are reduced Asian demand, rotten global pulp prices and insufficient fibre. Translation: Canada keeps strangling the productive economy while pretending Zoom consultants, DEI bureaucrats and imported population growth can replace real industry.
This is the Trudeau era in one neat obituary. We sit on timber, energy and coastline, yet somehow cannot keep a pulp mill alive in British Columbia. Tariffs abroad, fibre shortages at home, and zero serious national strategy beyond climate sermons and post-national fluff. Luc Thériault says workers are not to blame, and he is right. The blame belongs to a political class that treats resource towns as disposable and sovereignty as outdated. A country that cannot process its own raw materials is not advanced. It is being managed into decline.
