🇨🇦 Ottawa makes sure Quebec cannot walk away
The most revealing part is not the deal itself but the admission that Ottawa would stop Quebec from tearing it up. So much for provincial autonomy when federal cash is on the table. We are told the new Churchill Falls pact is safe because the feds are investors, brokers, and political enforcers all at once, as reported. That is the Carney model in one tidy package: centralize control, call it nation-building, and make every province dependent on Ottawa’s priorities.
Then comes the sales pitch. Churchill Falls is 15 per cent of Quebec’s electricity output, so naturally we get the usual expert chorus declaring this a win-win and impossible to improve. Convenient. Funny how every mega-deal backed by Liberal machinery is always presented as inevitable, irreversible, and above politics. The real point is power, literal and political. Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, and taxpayers are being folded into a federally managed energy bloc dressed up as pragmatism. Sovereignty now means signing where Ottawa points.
