🇨🇦 Canada’s justice theatre strikes again

A man kills Barbara Kentner by hurling a trailer hitch at her from a moving vehicle, gets convicted of manslaughter in 2021, and now Brayden Bushby has full parole. That is the state’s idea of justice in 2026, as reported. Endless official sermons about reconciliation, equity, healing, and systemic blah blah, yet when an Indigenous woman is actually dead, the machinery spits out paperwork, parole boards, and bureaucratic indifference.

This is late-stage liberal Canada in one case file: performative moralism for cameras, soft-state weakness in practice. Ottawa can micromanage speech, regulate energy, subsidize DEI consultants, and lecture taxpayers about colonial guilt, but it somehow cannot deliver durable consequences for lethal violence. The result is a country where symbolism replaces order and state institutions lose legitimacy one ruling at a time. If the system cannot protect citizens or even convincingly punish killers, then all the rainbow land acknowledgements in the world are just regime decor.
