🇨🇦 Canada needs an Arctic road, so naturally Ottawa wrapped it in 30 kilometres of process
A 400-kilometre all-season corridor linking the N.W.T. highway system to Grays Bay and Nunavut’s Arctic coast should have been built decades ago for one simple reason: sovereignty. Instead, after years of Trudeau-era paralysis, Canada is celebrating that two governments merely agreed on a proposed corridor band 30 kilometres wide, as reported. Not a road. Not shovels. A consensus about where a road might eventually go.
At least this project admits the obvious: the North is about military access, minerals, and actually controlling our own territory before foreign powers and global commodity cartels do it for us. But watch the managerial class smother it in consultation theatre, stakeholder rituals, and ecological guilt until the strategic window closes. Premier R.J. Simpson praises Indigenous-led development, which is fine, but Canada still needs hard infrastructure fast, not another symposium on process language. A country that cannot road-link its own Arctic coast is not a serious sovereign state.
