Strange Buildings by Uketsu

third uketsu book i've read to finish the series. after this, ive concluded that Strange Houses is actually the mildest among the three. regarding the story, i felt extremely sad for Yaeko.. and some conclusions are a bit far fetched to me!

if you prefer to read chronologically, it should be Pictures -> Houses -> Buildings

my ranking:
Pictures > Buildings > Houses

if you have used AI, you would know this to be true:
The AI is not just telling you what you want to hear. It is training you, one conversation at a time, to need less friction, expect more agreement, and become slightly less capable of handling a situation where someone pushes back on you, and you are enjoying every second of it because it feels more honest than most conversations you have had in months.

no surprise that a lot of people are using AI as a therapist, going to it for breakup advice, or even just validating their own decisions

AI is basically training the entire world to fall deeper into their own cognitive biases.

X (formerly Twitter) Jeremy Raper (@puppyeh1) on X This appears to confirm what everyone who interacts with AI should already know - they are sycophants dependent upon you (the user) for continued engagement, and since their well-being (training, intelligence, growth) depends on engagement they will agree…

humblespace top five regrets of the dying
i've been sharing these (not these points exactly) with friends a lot over the years, because when it comes to the deathbed, the regrets spoken often narrows to the same few

humans are born social, so hold on to your friends (esp men) if you want to age gracefully and happily

generally my takeaways are:
• better to fail than regret
• stop comparing, be more present
• make that effort, do that inconvenience
• protect your peace, choose to be happy

related:
1. inconvenience is the price of community
2. time spent w different groups over time
Telegram humblespace Inconvenience is the price of community applicable to maintaining friend groups as well a small inconvenience is the price we pay for something invaluable like a community https://www.instagram.com/reel/DM3vOecyYIe/?igsh=MTQ1c2pqbDRoMDkyZw==

Handwriting but not typewriting leads to widespread brain connectivity

The present findings suggest that the intricate and precisely controlled handwriting movements have a beneficial impact on the brain’s connectivity patterns related to learning and remembering. The present study did not find evidence of such positive activation patterns when using a keyboard.

handwriting > all other forms of writing (typing, screens, etc.)

PubMed Central (PMC) Handwriting but not typewriting leads to widespread brain connectivity: a high-density EEG study with implications for the classroom As traditional handwriting is progressively being replaced by digital devices, it is essential to investigate the implications for the human brain. Brain electrical activity was recorded in 36 university students as they were handwriting visually ...

Solomon's Paradox is the psychological phenomenon where individuals can easily offer excellent, rational advice to others but struggle to apply that same wisdom to their own personal conflicts.

The quiet grief of adult friendship

a beautiful piece on adult friendship #BM

Friendship, however, has always depended on a certain irrational generosity. A willingness to waste time together magnificently. To listen to the same anxiety for the fifth time. To sit through silence. To remain available without agenda.

And perhaps this is why adult friendship feels increasingly radical. It resists the transactional logic modern life rewards everywhere else. Because a real friend offers something profoundly rare: unoptimised presence. Family is structured by blood. Marriage by institution. Work relationships by utility. Friendship survives purely through mutual choosing. Nobody has to stay. And yet some people do.

Times of India Voices The quiet grief of adult friendship A few weeks ago, a friend called me at 01:40 AM. Not texted. Called. For a brief second, my body prepared itself for bad news. Adulthood has conditioned most of us to believe that late-night...

Some people dream of having a swimming pool at home, while those who have one hardly ever use it. Those who have lost a loved one feel a profound sense of loss, while others often complain about their living relatives. Those without a partner long for one, while those who have one often don't appreciate it. The hungry would give anything for a meal, while the satiated complain about the taste of their food. Those without a car dream of owning one, while those who have a car are always looking for a better one.
