Civilian airstrike deaths soar above 160 in September, monitor says

October 15, 2026

Regime airstrikes killed more than 160 civilians, including children and women, across Myanmar in September, nearly double the figure reported in August, according to the Myanmar Defense and Security Institute.

Rakhine State saw the most attacks, with 45, followed by Kachin State and Sagaing Region, with 32 and 29 respectively, the institute said.

Rakhine recorded the highest number of civilian casualties at 144, followed by Sagaing with 101 and Magway Region with 61.

The report said the regime mainly used fighter jets to carry out the attacks, adding that the practice of repeatedly striking the same location is becoming more common.
