CERR has prepared a review of the dynamics of intra-regional trade among Central Asian countries in January–July 2026.
In January–July 2026, intra-regional trade among Central Asian countries reached $8.1 billion, increasing by 25.4% compared with the same period of the previous year. Kazakhstan remained the region’s largest exporter, with exports to Central Asian countries totaling $4.5 billion, or 55.9% of total intra-regional exports. Uzbekistan accounted for $2 billion (24.7%), Turkmenistan for $844 million (10.4%), Kyrgyzstan for $523 million (6.4%), and Tajikistan for $209 million (2.6%). Thus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan together accounted for more than 80% of intra-regional exports.
The importance of Central Asia in the foreign trade of individual countries varies considerably. The region accounted for the largest shares of total foreign trade in Kyrgyzstan — 19.9% and Tajikistan — 17.6%. The corresponding share stood at 10.9% for Uzbekistan and 6.7% for Kazakhstan. This reflects differing levels of countries’ engagement in regional trade.

Overall, the data indicate a continued expansion of intra-regional trade and stronger economic interconnectedness across Central Asia. Sustaining this momentum could provide a foundation for further development of industrial cooperation, cross-border value chains, and greater non-commodity trade.
