Researchers found that male sex hormones may reduce allergic asthma by strengthening sympathetic nerve connections in the lungs. In mice, androgens promoted nerve growth and norepinephrine release, which suppressed type 2 inflammation; removing male hormones eliminated this protection, while testosterone restored it. The findings suggest a hormone–nerve–immune pathway that may help explain why asthma often improves in males after puberty.
