Researchers discovered that samarium-based infinite-layer nickelates exhibit reentrant superconductivity, where superconductivity is first suppressed by a magnetic field but then re-emerges and persists beyond 60 tesla. The effect, attributed to the Jaccarino–Peter compensation mechanism, allows superconductivity to survive under extreme magnetic fields, offering a potential route to high-field superconducting magnets, quantum devices, and future high-temperature superconductors.
