Researchers developed a new family of Aurivillius-type oxide-ion conductors that achieve high ionic conductivity at just 350°C, well below the operating temperature of conventional solid oxide fuel cells. The optimized magnesium-doped layered film created fast ion-conducting channels and enabled fuel cells to reach a power density of 0.726 W/cm² at 400°C with stable operation, offering a pathway toward more durable, lower-cost hydrogen fuel cells with simpler thermal management.
