The White House has formalized legal commitments to allocate nearly the entire $400 million, which Congress appropriated for Ukraine’s military needs at the end of last year. Reuters reports, citing three sources familiar with the plan.

The budget authority expires on September 30: if the US authorities had not concluded the contracts by that date, the funding would have been withdrawn, Reuters notes.

By the beginning of this week, US President Donald Trump’s administration had formalized commitments totaling $307 million under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). The remaining $93 million is planned to be committed by the end of the fiscal year, the agency’s sources said.
