🇪🇺 European refineries operating close to capacity

Following the meeting of the Oil Coordination Group, the European Commission said that European oil-processing facilities are operating at nearly maximum capacity. Oil supplies to the EU remain stable for the time being; however, prices for diesel and aviation fuel are high because of the tense situation on the global market. The statement was published on September 29.

Commercial stocks of petroleum products at Europe’s largest oil-trading hub, Amsterdam–Rotterdam–Antwerp, are below the average of the past five years. At the same time, the European Commission emphasizes that the EU’s strategic oil reserves remain high so far and can be used in the event of serious supply disruptions.

However, the buffer capacity of European oil processing is steadily diminishing, meaning that the next major supply disruption will be more difficult to offset through higher refinery utilization.
