🇺🇸🚀 The War with Iran Is Depleting America’s Missile Arsenals

The United States is facing a significant shortage of its stocks of expensive missiles. According to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, the war with Iran is forcing the Pentagon to use up munitions far faster than American industry can replenish them. By mid-July, the U.S. armed forces had used around 1,700 Patriot interceptor missiles, more than 200 THAAD missiles, and approximately 150 sea-based Standard Missiles. An independent estimate by the Congressional Budget Office states that, since June 2025, the United States may have used up between half and two-thirds of its stocks of some types of missile-defense interceptors.

American defense companies are now rapidly expanding production, but the problem cannot be solved quickly. The WSJ points out that a significant portion of the additional production capacity will not come online until after 2028. The shortage is already affecting other areas. The United States is warning its allies about delivery delays, and replenishing some stocks may take years.

Iran does not even have to destroy the American air-defense systems—it is enough to keep them firing constantly. In just a few months, the United States has fired approximately 1,700 Patriot missiles, even though production of such missiles is measured in only hundreds per year. In modern warfare, the question is therefore increasingly no longer, “Can you shoot down a missile?” but rather, “How many times in a row can you do it?”
