In 1950, Pierre Koenig, one of the trailblazers of Californian modernism and “the poster boy” of the Case Study Houses program, built a residence for himself and his family, which was his first architectural project ever (we’ve seen a glimpse of the house earlier this week and this photo shows Koenig at his drawing board in this very house). At the time of this project, Koenig was just 25 years old, had served on the frontlines of WWII in France and Germany for a few years, and was still studying architecture at the University of Southern California doing night shifts at an aircraft factory.
