The absurd part is right in the numbers: 41 per cent call the U.S. an enemy, while ally and neutral both sit at 22. The trade war may be blamed on Trump, as reported, but the deeper story is Canada’s elite discovering far too late that tying your country to an unpredictable empire is not sovereignty, it is managed vulnerability.

And of course the Liberal class will milk every insult for a patriotic photo op while quietly admitting the bill lands on Canadians. Ottawa announces countermeasures on $27.6 billion in imports, 78 per cent expect higher prices, and 35 per cent already say inflation is the top issue. Brilliant. Carney gets his Elbows Up theatre, voters get pricier food and consumer goods, and the consultant caste calls it national resolve. This is what post-national management looks like when it collides with reality: no independence, no leverage, just slogans and a grocery bill.
