Half of one Nova Scotia artist’s customers were American, and now that market is gone overnight thanks to a 50 percent U.S. tariff on Canadian original art. That is what dependence looks like when your political class spends years preaching post-national fluff instead of building a resilient domestic economy. As reported, artists like Chris Warburton Hulme and Miranda Jordan have simply stopped shipping south because they are not interested in becoming unpaid customs clerks for Washington.

And what does Ottawa offer small creators hit by a trade war tied to nearly $28 billion in Canadian goods. Counter-tariffs, press releases, and the usual selective bailout culture for politically useful sectors while everyone else is told to be resilient. Trudeau-era Canada hollowed out self-reliance, tied livelihoods to unstable foreign markets, and called it modernity. Now even original art gets caught in the grinder, and the grand strategy from the managerial class is basically elbows up and figure it out yourself. That is not sovereignty. That is drift with a flag pinned on it.
