📌 Tehran, IRNA – Yemen’s armed forces have downed a Saudi Typhoon fighter jet over the northern province of Sa’ada, military spokesperson Yahya Saree has said, as Sana’a reported a sharp escalation in Saudi-led coalition attacks.
According to Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TV channel, the spokesperson said late on Wednesday that the aircraft had taken off from Taif Air Base and was struck directly by a surface-to-air missile while flying over Sa’ada. He said the action was taken in response to attacks on Yemeni territory.
Saree said the Saudi-led coalition had carried out 42 air and missile strikes over the previous 24 hours, targeting civilian sites in the capital, Sana’a, and the provinces of Taiz, Lahij, Marib and Amran, as well as Mayyun (Perim) Island.
The attacks involved F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets operating from Khamis Mushait and Taif air bases, along with missile strikes launched from Saudi Arabia’s Najran province, he said.
He put the total number of coalition air and missile attacks since the latest escalation at 2,323.
The new round of military clashes between Saudi Arabia and Yemen started in July 2026. Sana’a has repeatedly sought an end to Saudi-led restrictions and measures affecting ports, airports and the movement of goods, calling for sanctions and restrictions to be lifted as part of efforts to secure a political settlement. Saudi Arabia imposed a blockade on Yemen in 2015, which Yemen says is directly affecting the civilian population.
