It doesn’t make sense to continue wanting something if you’re not willing to do what it takes to get it. If you don’t want to live the lifestyle, then release yourself from the desire. To crave the result but not the process is to guarantee disappointment.

an interesting conversation i had this week: studying book titles as a form of compact marketing

book titles are often the first (sometimes the only) thing that captures attention, even before viewing title covers or plot descriptions

to be able to signal directly to your ICP in a short title is the ultimate form of marketing

something so everyday that i barely think about, pretty cool

"When a child sees their mother loving their father they feel like their mother is loving them. When they see their father loving their mother they feel like their father is loving them. It is the only time in the human experience where you can be loved indirectly. No one's even looking at you or touching you or talking to you, but you feel loved."

The Inner Game of Tennis by W. Timothy Gallwey

(late post)
saw the title multiple times, so decided to give it a go even tho i don’t play tennis, finally finished this a few days back!

couldn’t relate to the tennis analogies (most of the book) which made it harder to get through. my skill issue tho, not the book’s. that said, it’ll be rated a bit lower for me. there are still lessons to take aside from tennis.

main takeaways:
- self 1 (the thinking, judging mind) constantly interferes with self 2 (the body that already knows how to perform) -> the goal is to quiet self 1
- trying harder and overthinking actively makes performance worse
- awareness without judgment, art of relaxed concentration

fav quotes:
Natural learning is and always will be from the inside out, not vice versa.

humblespace note that it is 2016 data
picking the right partner is the single most important decision of your life

i remember reading a study of how married men score much higher on the happiness index than their unmarried peers

can’t find it anymore, but here is another article on it:
https://ifstudies.org/blog/who-is-happiest-married-mothers-and-fathers-per-the-latest-general-social-survey

now then, what would be interesting is if happiness correlates or causes higher wages for men due to higher life satisfaction and motivations
Institute for Family Studies Who Is Happiest? Married Mothers and Fathers, Per the Latest General Social Survey Social media and mainstream media are replete with stories suggesting marriage and parenthood are not fulfilling, especially for women. Not surprisingly, many Americans now believe the key to being happy is a good education, work, and freedom from the encumbrances…

Good share, would be interested to see the change from 2016 to 2026.

I would bet this is largely due to the fact that more successful men ($ wise at least) are more attractive to women thus have more dating options and are most likely to get married.
The less successful men will have a harder time finding a wife and thus more likely to be single.

Probably the reason there’s such a big gap is the combined effect of successful men are more likely to get married and married men pushing harder to provide a better life for wife and kids.

such an interesting pov and also valid chicken and egg situation that is worth sharing

in my head i was along the lines of how married men are motivated to work harder to support their families, hence resulting in higher wages from more effort and motivation
