Myanmar marks 152nd World Post Day
The ceremony marking the 152nd anniversary of World Post Day was held at the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon. It was attended by Union Minister for Digital Development and Communications U Mya Tun Oo, Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn, deputy ministers, guests and award-winning students.
Speaking at the ceremony, Union Minister U Mya Tun Oo said that 9 October was designated as World Post Day to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and recognise the contributions of postal organizations, service providers and workers worldwide.
This year’s World Post Day theme, “ONE POSTAL NETWORK, INFINITE POSSIBILITIES”, highlights the role of postal services in connecting people, providing essential services and creating new opportunities worldwide.
In line with its vision, “Myanmar Post for Everyone”, Myanmar Post has been upgrading its postal network through technology, expanding its operations and introducing new services. The union minister urged officials to make greater efforts to provide quality services that benefit the country and its people by making effective use of the nationwide network of more than 800 post offices.
He also stressed that the effective use of digital technologies and the modernisation of postal services would help the sector keep pace with changing times and connect more effectively with international markets.
The union minister urged the Posts and Telecommunications Department, which oversees the postal sector, Myanmar Post and other postal service providers to closely monitor the development strategies and agreements adopted at the 28th Universal Postal Congress, as well as international developments and technological advances in the postal sector, and continue working to develop Myanmar’s postal services.
A video message for World Post Day 2026 from the Director-General of the UPU headquarters in Switzerland was then screened, along with commemorative videos.
The Union minister presented awards to the winners of the national-level 55th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People, which is open to participants aged nine to 15. The first prize went to Ma Pyone Thet Paing Htun from Sittway, Rakhine State; the second prize to Ma Su Myat Nadi from Pyinmana, Nay Pyi Taw; the third prize to Ma Phyo Yadanar Zaw from Paungde Township, Bago Region; and the special prize to Ma Aye Ya Mon Thwe from Mawlamyine, Mon State.
Deputy Minister U Thet Win Aung presented certificates of honour to the members of the competition’s judging panel.
After the ceremony, the Union ministers, deputy ministers and officials viewed an exhibition featuring commemorative photographs, publications and postal equipment illustrating the historical development and transformation of postal services.
