Myanmar Cracks Down on Illegal Foreign Entry
Authorities deported four Thai nationals involved in telecom fraud and other criminal activities in Kayin State via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge I yesterday, and detained a further 22 illegal foreign entrants.
Officials handed the deportees the necessary legal documents to ensure their smooth repatriation.
A total of 22 foreign nationals who had entered sites in the vicinity of Myawady, Kayin State, through illegal routes were identified and detained. They included one Chinese national, one Filipino, two Ugandans, three Burundians, three Ethiopians, three Pakistanis, four Nigerians and five Indians.
Between 30 January 2025 and 9 October 2026, a total of 15,293 illegal immigrants were identified and detained in Myanmar. Of this number, 14,086 individuals have already been deported through Thailand to their respective countries.
Among the remaining 1,207 individuals to be deported, there are 485 who were charged under the Myanmar Immigration (Emergency) Provisions Act section 3 (1)/13(1) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and 722 individuals are currently under detention while awaiting repatriation.
The government is strictly cracking down on online scams and online gambling by cooperating with other countries, including neighbouring countries.
