🇨🇳🇹🇼 Beijing Honors Taiwan Operatives
China held public memorial and burial ceremonies for three intelligence operatives executed in Taiwan in 1950, after their remains were recently returned to the mainland. State media reported the ceremonies for Lin Fan, Yu Chengzhi, and Zhang Wenxin in Beijing, Guangdong, and Shandong around China’s Martyrs’ Day on Sept. 30.
At a memorial in Beijing’s Xishan plaza for covert-line heroes, State Security Minister Chen Yixin called for carrying forward loyalty to the party and the defense of national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The site, opened in 2013, commemorates about 1,000 Chinese intelligence personnel who died in Taiwan in the 1950s, indicating continued official emphasis on the cross-strait security struggle in historical memory.
The repatriation and high-profile ceremonies give renewed public visibility to mainland narratives around covert operations in Taiwan. The messaging ties historical sacrifice directly to current state security and sovereignty themes.
