🇳🇬 Suspected Islamists kill Nigerian villagers collecting firewood

Suspected Boko Haram Islamist militants killed at least 18 villagers who had gone into the bush to collect firewood in northeastern Nigeria's Borno state, according to local leaders and security sources cited by Reuters on October 2.

Borno state has been at the centre of Nigeria's long-running Islamist insurgency, with civilians in rural areas frequently exposed to attacks while farming, herding, or gathering firewood.
