🇸🇩 Fuel shortage in Sudan drives up prices as import curbs hit supplies
Sudan is facing a fuel shortage linked to global oil disruptions tied to the Middle East conflict and domestic import restrictions, disrupting public transport, freight and factory production. Higher transport costs have also pushed up food prices, while the shortage has fueled a rise in black market fuel trade across government-held areas.
Prime Minister Kamil Idriss has ordered extra supplies of petroleum products to service stations to ease the shortages. Analysts say the crisis has been worsened by a central bank requirement for importers to deposit the equivalent of 200 kilograms of gold, the prolonged shutdown of the al-Jaili refinery, foreign exchange shortages, and financing difficulties amid the ongoing civil war.
