🇳🇬 Police recover remains of at least 28 suspected kidnap victims in Abia forests

Police in Nigeria's south-eastern Abia State said they recovered 28 human skulls and bones from suspected criminal camps in the Umuaku and Nneato forests during a security operation in Umunneochi on Saturday. Police spokeswoman Maureen Chinaka said the suspects fled when tactical operatives arrived, and the camps were dismantled. Authorities said forensic investigations were under way to identify the remains and determine the circumstances of the deaths.

Abia State Police Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi said the operation was part of an ongoing campaign against criminal hideouts in the state. The discovery comes amid persistent concerns over kidnapping gangs, while more than 80 people were also abducted in separate attacks in Niger and Zamfara states over the weekend.
