🇸🇩🇺🇸 Sudan foreign minister criticizes US over visa block on army chief

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salim Ahmed Ibrahim told the U.N. General Assembly on Monday that the United States failed to issue a visa to Army Chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan for the high-level segment of the session. According to people familiar with the matter, Washington withheld Burhan’s visa amid disagreements over a proposed ceasefire in Sudan’s war between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

Ibrahim also called for an end to the flow of weapons, ammunition and foreign fighters into Sudan, saying arms should remain under state control. Sudan has been at war since April 2023, and a U.N.-backed investigation this month said foreign support networks have supplied fighters, weapons and military technology that helped sustain the conflict and displace millions.
