🇪🇹 Government forces retake Alamata as fighting intensifies in northern Ethiopia

Pro-government forces in Ethiopia said on Monday they had taken control of Alamata in southern Tigray after days of clashes with rebel forces across multiple fronts. The Tigray Peace Force, a Tigrayan splinter group aligned with the federal government, announced the fall of the strategic town on Facebook, and conflict monitor ACLED confirmed reports that federal forces had seized it.

The Tigray People's Liberation Front launched offensives last week into the neighbouring Amhara and Afar regions, taking Erebti in Afar on Sunday and pushing east toward the Djibouti supply corridor. The renewed fighting has raised fears of a return to the 2020-2022 civil war, which caused an estimated 600,000 deaths.
