🌍 Mission 300 reports 50 million electricity connections across 40 countries

The World Bank and the African Development Bank said Africa’s Mission 300 electrification initiative had delivered more than 50 million electricity connections in 40 countries, according to an article preview published by Africa Confidential on 25 September 2026. The total represents one-sixth of the programme’s target to connect 300 million people by 2030, as the next phase focuses on grid expansion, mini-grids, household solar, private capital mobilisation and utility finance reforms.

The World Bank said more than $50 billion in development finance had been pledged by July. Africa Confidential said the programme still faces constraints including weak payment systems, currency risk and politically constrained tariffs, with progress so far favouring more bankable governments.
