Wildfires in Washington are forcing animal shelters to make room fast - and help has arrived from Seattle, echoing the emergency shelter networks often mobilized during disasters in Texas. Seattle Humane transported 44 cats and five dogs that were already in Spokane-area shelters before the fires, freeing space for displaced pets to stay closer to home and have a better chance of reuniting with their families. The transferred animals will eventually be offered for adoption in Seattle, while supplies are also being delivered to shelters dealing with the emergency. Whether it’s wildfire in Washington or a major disaster in Texas, sometimes helping animals starts simply by making room.
