🇺🇸🇺🇦 LATEST: Trump says Ukraine should hold presidential elections

US President Donald Trump has called for Ukraine to hold elections, saying President Volodymyr Zelensky had multiple opportunities to reach a settlement in the conflict with Russia.

Speaking to reporters near Washington, Trump reiterated his view that Ukraine should choose its leadership through elections. Ukraine has not held a presidential election since 2019, with martial law in place following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
