The move follows a Guardian report that identified a proposed $1 million US grant for projects described as countering “lawfare and censorship” in Brazil. Brazilian authorities said the allegations require investigation, particularly during the country’s ongoing election process.

Brazil’s first-round presidential election is scheduled for October 4, 2026.
