Ecuador: 60% of the Population Feels the Government Is Losing the Battle Against Crime
🇪🇨 The security crisis places the country at the top of the region in terms of robberies and the presence of drug-related crime in neighborhoods, plunging 70% of Ecuadorians into a constant fear of crime.
🏛️ Distrust in institutions is deepening. The police have an approval rating of just 24%, and the judicial system a dismal 11%, prompting 60% of the population to demand “heavy-handed” policies.
📈 Despite the declaration of internal armed conflict and the recurring states of emergency under Daniel Noboa’s administration, 87% believe that criminal mafias control the territory.
Although the ruling party reports reductions nationwide, lethal violence has escalated in nine provinces; in the canton of Machala alone, murders rose from 159 to 280 in the last year.
