Hugging Face and Pollen Robotics have unveiled Microduck, a compact bipedal robot priced at $399.
It weighs 770 grams and stands 25 centimeters tall. The unit packs 15 actuators, which function like muscles to allow for fluid movement. It also carries a lidar sensor for spatial awareness, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and two NFC scanners built into its beak. Seeed Studio manages the manufacturing, while you can program its behavior using Python or JavaScript to make it waddle, sing, or even roller-skate. 🚀
While Disney has explored character-focused bots like the BDX Droid, this platform is designed specifically for open-ended developer experimentation. It offers a much more accessible and friendly alternative to the massive, industrial humanoid designs that currently dominate the market. 🔥
It is a refreshing shift from the cold, metallic robots we see in most tech demos.
Small bots might just teach us big lessons.
